If you were cursed with a shorter stature you may be relieved to know that there are many things you can do to help increase your height. While none of these methods will give you inches overnight, they are fairly easy to incorporate into your daily life and can gradually lengthen your body naturally and safely.

By simply incorporating some of these methods, you may very well be down a path that will allow you to increase your height and increase your overall health and core strength as well. While many of these methods are simply innovative basic stretches, it is recommended that you seek the advice of a medical professional first, particularly if you have a history of back and muscle problems.

Before You Begin

You are essentially going to train and force your body to become leaner, stronger, and longer. Because of this, it is important to make sure that you provide your body with enough nutrients to ensure that the job can even be accomplished. If you have a nasty habit of eating fast food when in a hurry or if you have a pantry full of potato chips and other junk food, you need to seriously consider a lifestyle change.

At the very least you need to start taking a multi-vitamin every day. Make sure that you get healthy doses of magnesium, calcium, protein, and iron either through this multi-vitamin or through your daily diet. It will boost the speed of the process and help you become healthier on a different level.

Swimming

Although the simple act of swimming will not increase your height, it does allow your spine to decompress after a long day of work or study. If you have access to a community pool, or are fortunate enough to have one in your own back yard, utilize it as often as possible. Simply floating will do much for your back health, but pool time is also an excellent opportunity for cardio and stretching as well.

Stretching

Stretching is one of the most underrated facets of exercise, but definitely one of the most important. While any form of stretching is good, there are particular stretching exercises that you should do in order to increase your height and improve your posture.

One of the simplest and absolutely most effective ways of increasing your height is a simple body stretch that involves nothing more than hanging by your hands for 5 – 10 minutes each day. All you need to do is hang onto a chin up or pull up bar and occasionally switch the position and direction of your hands. This stretch allows gravity to work for your body and help lengthen your spine, which in turn also improves your posture. Chin up bars can be purchased at most department stores for under $20, and many of these have comfortable foam grips.

 

While it makes logical sense to want to focus on stretching only your spine, your legs can increase your height as well. One of the better leg stretches out there is a seated toe touch stretch. Sit on the floor with your legs flat and in a V shape. As you keep your back straight, start to stretch and reach for your toes. Make sure that you do not bend your knees, as this will prevent you from being able to stretch out your hamstrings at all. If you cannot reach your toes, bend as far forward as you can and remain there for a few minutes. The stretch reflex will pass and you will be able to reach farther.

Bicycling

Cycling is another great way to elongate your body. This exercise forces your body to stretch out and utilize several muscle groups at the same time, giving you a great cardio workout as well as helping you in the height department. If you do not have a bike available, most gyms offer a form of spin class that will get you going in the right direction.
