Bowel Spasm

What You Should Know about a Bowel Spasm

Having a bowel spasm can be very uncomfortable.   This type of spasm often causes a person to become constipated and then it causes them to have diarrhea.  This is not something that is enjoyed by the person that is experiencing these spasms on a regular basis and there is often a strong desire to have the complication corrected in order to help you feel better.

There are many different things that can result in a bowel spasm.  Understanding the causes of these spasms can help you take the steps needed to correct the problem.  Stress and anxiety is one of the most common causes for this type of a complication.  Therefore, if you are suffering from these spasms on a regular basis you may want to look at the stress in your life.  Find out what is causing you the stress so that you can begin working on finding ways to decrease it and eliminate it.

Taking the time to engage in relaxation techniques may help you decrease the likelihood of having a bowel spasm. You may find that if you are releasing your stress in positive ways you are less tense.  This results in less bowel spasms and less constipation and diarrhea.  This is also the less intrusive solution and it is less expensive because you do not need to pay for medications and doctors visits, or tests, in order to feel better.  However, many people do not know how to relax or they may not understand positive coping skills.  If this is something that you are not able to handle on your own you may want to enter into counseling in order to learn these skills or work through serious issues that may be effecting you.

You may need to have a spinal adjustment in order to correct the bowel spasm that you are experiencing.  This can be done by seeing a chiropractor.  This individual will be able to help you release pressure on your spine and the nerves so that you do not experience the bowel spasm as often as you would without the adjustment.  This is definitely something that you will want to talk to your doctor about in order to see if this could help with your problem.

If you believe that you are having a bowel spasm and this is something that continues to happen to you, you will want to make an appointment to see your doctor.  You will want to let him or her know what your symptoms are and when they are occurring.  It may be a good idea to keep a journal in order to record what you were doing or eating before the spasm occurred.  This information can be very helpful for your doctor in order to help them determine the cause of your spasm.

If you are not ready to see your doctor you may want to begin by trying to reduce the stress in your life.  Set aside time for yourself.  Take a walk or start journaling when you had a bad day or you are experiencing stress.  These things may work for you.  You may also want to think about what you are eating.  Sometimes certain foods can trigger these spasms.  If you are able to identify what foods create a problem you can stop eating them and see if this helps.

Remember that a bowel spasm can be painful and uncomfortable.  If this is a problem that you continue to have you will need to see a doctor.  It is always best to get to the root of the problem so that you can get the help you need in order to correct it.  You will be much happier in the end when you have found a solution that works for you.
